Travelling without your pet: a simple checklist for peace of mind
Vaccinations, routine, a trusted pet sitter… Simple steps to leave your dog or cat in good hands while you’re away.
A weekend in Agadir, a wedding in Fès, a family holiday… and the same question comes back: who will look after the dog or the cat? Here’s a simple checklist so you can leave with peace of mind.
1. Start early
During holidays and festivities, good pet sitters get booked quickly. Start looking one to two weeks before you leave, especially for several nights.
2. Check the health record
Before you leave your pet with someone:
- their vaccinations are up to date, especially rabies;
- their flea, tick and worm treatment is recent;
- you’ve written down their medication and doses.
Tip: in DarPaws, add vaccinations and vet visits to your pet’s profile. The app shows what’s coming up next, and you can find everything in a second.
3. Choose the right kind of care
- Home visits: ideal for cats, who prefer to stay in their own home.
- Walks: for a dog that’s alone a few hours a day.
- Sitting or boarding: your pet stays with the sitter while you’re away.
4. Choose a pet sitter you trust
Look at their profile, services, rate, distance and above all the reviews from other owners. On DarPaws, only owners who completed a booking can leave a review.
Don’t hesitate to meet before you leave: your pet gets to know them, and you can ask all your questions.
5. Prepare an instruction sheet
Leave your pet sitter:
- meal times and amounts;
- habits (walks, games, favourite hiding spots);
- your vet’s number and an emergency contact;
- what not to do (forbidden foods, doors to keep closed…).
6. Keep the same routine
Leave their usual food, bed, blanket or a piece of clothing that smells like you. Fewer changes mean less stress.
7. Stay in touch… in moderation
One photo a day is enough to reassure you. Trust your pet sitter and enjoy your trip!
